The Department of War (DoW) is implementing a new, fully automated Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM) workflow to streamline how personnel gain access to mission-critical systems. This new process replaces the decades old paper-based DD Form 2875 System Authorization Access Request (SAAR), which is being retired.
This transition is a key initiative in the Department’s move to a Zero Trust architecture and is designed to be more efficient and secure, directly supporting our mission objectives. More information on this can be found in the Modernizing System Access Authorization Requests and Account Provisioning through ICAM Workflows memo.
To begin the onboarding process, please read the ICAM SAAR Workflow Implementation Guide, which contains detailed instructions and contact information for authorized ICAM Service Providers.
Core Benefits of the New ICAM Workflow:
- Timeliness: The new workflow provides access to tools within hours, a significant change from the multi-week timeline of the previous process. •
- Security Enhancements: Access is revoked instantly upon a person's departure, creating an immediate and robust security improvement. The system also generates a permanent, unchangeable audit trail for all access-related events. •
- Reduced Administrative Workload: This transition eliminates paperwork and the need for manual routing, allowing personnel to focus on higher-priority tasks.
Call to Action for Application Owners:
Department application owners should now work with their ICAM providers to transition to the new system. This involves categorizing applications by risk level and updating user roles and permissions to ensure a secure and accurate migration.
