Joseph M. Callahan is currently stepping in as the Acting Deputy Chief of Staff for the Department of War (DoW) CIO. While he is filling this role, his permanent home is still as the Deputy Director for Business Operations, a position he has held since January 2026.
Mr. Callahan brings extensive leadership and strategic experience to the DoW CIO. Previously, he was the DoW CIO Knowledge Manager, where he enhanced organizational decision-making and overall performance through the strategic dissemination of knowledge assets. From 2021 to 2023, he served as Chief of Staff to the DoW CIO, providing critical oversight and guidance for the department's IT initiatives. Prior to that, he advised the DoW CIO as a subject matter expert on complex analytical, legislative, and strategic management issues.
A decorated veteran, Mr. Callahan served honorably in the United States Marine Corps and is a recipient of the Armed Forces Expeditionary and Service Medals.
