Mr. Ahmad Khan is a member of the Senior Executive Service and serves as the Director of Strategic Engagement, Office of the Chief Information Officer. In this position, he serves as the focal point within the DoD CIO for communication and collaboration with the defense industrial base, White House, interagency, and non-governmental organizations.

Prior to joining the CIO, Mr. Khan served as the Chief of Staff to the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition & Sustainment (USD(A&S)), assisting in overseeing a staff of over 42,000 and advising the USD(A&S) on matters pertaining to acquisition; contract administration; logistics and materiel readiness; installations and environment; operational energy; nuclear, chemical, and biological defense; the acquisition workforce; and the defense industrial base. Mr. Khan also served as the Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition (ASD(A)) where he was instrumental in the Department’s implementation of a number of President Biden’s first Executive Orders in office.

Before arriving to the DoD, Mr. Khan was the Regional Voter Protection Director - Southern States (Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia) for the Joe Biden 2020 Presidential Campaign/DNC 2020 Coordinated Campaign. He organized and managed one of the highest-priority regional voter protection organizations in the country. In addition, Mr. Khan directly facilitated election reforms and unprecedented expansion of early voting opportunities —including drop boxes and early voting hours and sites —that resulted in record-setting in-person early vote and vote by mail turnout in all the southern states. He also assisted in coordinating post-election efforts in Georgia to ensure all votes were counted, which resulted in a successful outcome.

Prior to joining the campaign, Mr. Khan was a Vice President in the National Security Practice at Govini. He assisted Govini leadership in securing a $400M DoD-wide indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract for decision science platform licenses and advisory services. He also contributed to meeting quarterly sales goals totaling over $20M. In addition to multiple prior leadership roles, Mr. Khan was previously the Head of the Defense Portfolio at U.Group, where his clients included the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the Defense Intelligence Agency, and U.S. Special Operations Command. In this role, he advised senior DoD leadership on the implementation and execution of their objectives and missions. Mr. Khan also oversaw all contractor support services and product delivery for the portfolio, including managing an annual budget of over $25M and multiple teams totaling over 100 staff that provided specialized programmatic support, and built and implemented innovative platforms and tools for clients.

Mr. Khan consulted for the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Committee in the Office of Public Engagement. He also worked on President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign in Ohio as the Voter Protection Director, where he organized and managed one of the largest state voter protection programs in the country.

As a civilian appointee, Mr. Khan worked in OSD from 2010-2012, where he served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan focusing on issues related to creating economic stability and revitalization. During both tours, he gained first-hand experience regarding facilitating economic development and promoting investment in emerging markets. A graduate of The Ohio State University School of Law, he is the recipient of the Office of the Secretary of Defense Exceptional Public Service Award, Office of the Secretary of Defense Award for Outstanding Achievement, and the Secretary of Defense Global War on Terrorism Civilian Service Medal.
