The Department of Defense (DoD) is seeking DoD or private sector employees working in the information technology field to participate in DoD's Information Technology Exchange Program pilot.
The Information Technology Exchange Program (ITEP) pilot provides a unique opportunity for DoD Components and private sector organizations to share best practices, gain a better understanding of each other's information technology practices and challenges, and partner to address these challenges. In addition, the ITEP pilot can be used to enhance the IT/Cybersecurity competencies and technical skills of employees from the DoD civilian information technology workforce and their peers from the private sector.
DoD civilians participating in the ITEP pilot must be considered exceptional employees, who work in the information technology field at the GS-11 level or above (or equivalent). They must also be willing to serve on a 3 to 12-month detail with private industry. DoD employees participating in the pilot will continue to receive DoD pay and benefits while learning on-the-job. The duties performed will be determined by the type of partner company selected for a specific detail. After completing ITEP pilot details, DoD employees return to their employing Components with insights that benefit both the DoD and the employee.
The pilot also allows DoD to bring private sector employees on board to learn more about defense IT programs and initiatives, and to share business best practices and expertise. The pilot provides opportunities ranging from support of DoD's daily business operations to maturation of its net-centric transformation capabilities. Areas of interest include: Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, IT Consolidation, Network Services, IT Project Management, Data Management and Enterprise Architecture. Interested private sector candidates must be considered exceptional employees and work in the information technology field at the GS-11 level or above (or equivalent). Also, they must be U.S. citizens and may be required to hold a security clearance, depending on the nature of the detail. Private sector participants may complete 3 to 12-month details at DoD, with salary costs paid by their private sector employer. Interested parties should seek supervisory approval and discuss the benefits that both the employee and the company may derive from a temporary ITEP pilot detail at the DoD.
