The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is the principal staff assistant and advisor to the Secretary of Defense for Information Technology (IT), including national security systems, defense business systems, and information resources matters. The CIO is responsible for all matters related to the Department of Defense (DoD) Information Enterprise, including communications; spectrum management; network operations; information systems; cybersecurity; positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) policy; and IT that supports DoD Command and Control (C2).
